Administration Department

Meet Natalia Lopez!

I am a speech-language pathologist, founder, and CEO of Empower Speech Therapy & Life Skills Center. I specialize in supporting individuals with complex communication profiles — including those who benefit from assistive and alternative communication (AAC), multidimensional language intervention, and highly individualized, systems-based care.

My work is driven by a core belief: communication is not just a skill set — it is identity, autonomy, connection, and dignity.

I immigrated to the United States at age eight and grew up in Brooklyn, New York, navigating the transition between cultures, languages, and expectations. Experiencing life within a multicultural immigrant community — and understanding firsthand what it feels like to adapt, to translate, and to find your voice in unfamiliar spaces — deeply shaped my perspective. Those experiences fuel my commitment to equity, access, and ensuring that every individual and family we serve feels seen, respected, and understood.

At Empower, progress is defined by strengthened confidence, deeper relationships, and meaningful participation in everyday life. Our model is relationship-based, family-centered, and grounded in clarity and practical application. Caregivers are not observers of therapy — they are empowered partners in it.

I am especially drawn to complex cases — individuals whose profiles don’t fit neatly into diagnostic boxes. Gestalt language processors, AAC users, regulation-driven communicators, mixed receptive-expressive challenges — complexity deserves thoughtful, integrated, and deeply respectful support.

As a leader, I have grown Empower into a multidisciplinary organization rooted in three core commitments:

Relationships First. Impact Through Simplicity. Culture of Growth.

These principles guide every decision we make — from clinical treatment to team culture to the experience families have from their first call to discharge.

My role is to ensure clinical excellence while building a team that is aligned, empowered, and continually developing.

I am also a wife and mother of two adventurous daughters. Being a parent continually deepens my conviction that families need clarity — not overwhelm — and support that fits into real life. Growth happens in everyday routines, not just in therapy rooms.

At the center of everything I do is this:

When communication strengthens, autonomy expands.

When caregivers feel confident, outcomes accelerate.

And when relationships come first, transformation follows.

Speech-Language Pathology Department

Melissa is a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP); she completed her Master’s Degree at Idaho State University. Originally, Melissa joined us as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant after completing her Bachelor’s Degree at Sacramento State University. She is a native of Northern California but has enjoyed calling Clovis home!

Melissa has experienced a variety of settings and populations that included both adults and pediatric disorders. Melissa is driven to empower her clients and their families with their communication needs. She is passionate about advocating for her patients and providing them with resources they need to feel empowered.

Melissa enjoys working with children with a variety of communication profiles and disorders, as this is where her initial spark came from for the field of speech-language pathology. What really makes Melissa's day is when she can see it "click" with a child and how quickly communication is enhanced with their communication partners. Additionally, she is absolutely inspired by seeing the growth in communication between her client and their care-givers. It's truly amazing.

Melissa also discovered a new love for the adult population during her clinical experience at Idaho State. She enjoyed working with patients suffering from traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and more and advocating for services to assist in regaining swallowing function, cognitive deficits, and expressive and receptive language.

Melissa is excited to rejoin the Empower team as she knows the supportive environment with the staff creates a positive environment for clients to make growth, develop new skills, and/or regain skills that may have been lost. She is happy to be able to support the Central Valley community!

Early Intervention Department

Hi! My name is Jennifer Nunez I was born and raised here in Fresno, California. I attended California State University -Fresno and received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. Following my graduation I began working as a Behavior Intervention Specialist for an ABA Clinic here in Fresno and I am now thrilled to be part of the Empower team as a Bilingual Early Intervention Specialist. I am passionate about providing resources to the communities I serve in a language that is understandable to them. I come from parents who immigrated to the United States to give their children a better chance at life and a better future, parents who could not understand the language that was spoken to them in a new country. It is my parents and relatives who I think about as a provider today and it is this that inspires me to become a vessel to resources for communities similar to the ones I grew up in. I value compassion, understanding, and unity and long to embed these values in the services I provide.
During my personal time I love to travel, be with friends, and family. I have recently developed a love for plants and candle making and have made it my hobby.
